Meet Mr. Daniel Peter Johnson
Daniel is a postgraduate student at the University of Cape Town, working towards a Masters Degree in Astrophysics. During his years as a student, he has also worked extensively in education at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, where his primary interests are in improving scientific literacy amongst young South Africans and access to quality tuition for scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds. In 2019, and once again in 2020, he was elected as the chairperson for Golden Future Project, a UCT-based tutoring outreach society which provides academic support to learners from under-resourced schools in Khayelitsha and other parts of Cape Town. Following the COVID crisis, he has spearheaded the establishment of the project’s WhatsApp Tutoring Program, in which a team of more than 200 tutors provides one-on-one support to high school learners.
