Simon Adjei Tachie is a lecturer and teaches Mathematics Education in the School of Mathematics Natural Science and Technology Education. As a researcher, his research is situated in interrelated fields of mathematics education including: Metacognitive skills and strategies in mathematics problem-solving; learners and teachers use of metacognitive skills and strategies in mathematics problem-solving; TPACK, metacognition and pedagogy; poor use of computers in teaching and learning of mathematics; the impact of in-service teachers’ community engagement programme; comparative study of male and female teachers application of metacognition; teachers’ attitude towards lesson study; blended teaching and learning and its effect; high failure rate of mathematics, empirical study on the importance of partnership between business communities; and teacher collaboration in mathematics teaching.
He is also supervising/co-supervising Masters and Doctorate projects. He has made six presentations at the international conferences in Madrid, (Spain); East London, Mthatha as well as Potchefstroom; and five local presentations. He has co-published two articles in accredited journals; four articles currently accepted for publication and with some other articles at various review stages. Dr Tachie is an active member of many organizations including AACE/SITE. On 24th June – 17 July 2011, he attended 1st NRF Winter Research School held at NMMU George Campus, South Africa. He also serving as an adhoc manuscripts reviewer (African Education Review and Eurasia Journal of Mathematics, Science and Technology Education). In 2015, he served as Faculty of Education Board Member (Doctorate student’s representative), Walter Sisulu University, NMD Mthatha.
