It really helps if you try and work with a few journalists and build up a good working relationship with them. The moment they know that they can call you to check on a release they have received and know that you will help is great. I frequently get asked bits and pieces and either collaborate with a journalist or write something. They also know that if the send an article to me, I will check facts* and return it within the half hour, goes a long way to building such relationships.
* I never correct content - just the facts. Should I spot a typo or grammatical error, I will simply point it out and leave it. I often feel that I would like to adopt a different style or approach, but remind myself that it is not my story!
