When I speak to a general audience or teachers, I want them to feel emotion and feel good about the science of astronomy. I want them to leave the talk with a positive feeling and good memories. I try to make it a special and beautiful experience and find that people respond very positively to that.
When you're speaking to school children, it is very important to find out what they want to know and answer their questions about the universe, rather than to focus on what you think is important. It can be a very special occasion for them when they understand something that they have been wondering about for the first time.
