Meet Mr. Selby Mokoena
Mr. Selby Mokoena is from Hazyview and is passionate about education and technology, he joined Good Work Foundation in 2014 and worked as a facilitator on Digital Mathematics and English, He was introduced to coding in 2016 and has further worked with different individuals to learn and acquire more skills and knowledge on coding.
Good Work Foundation is an educational NGO with different satellite campuses. Out of the “best of curiosity”, Selby Mokoena became a manager of a programme focusing on the research and development of a programme based on “Creativity, Innovation and Technology”. He left Good Work Foundation in April 2021 to complete his UNISA Practical for Bachelor of Education and to continue researching and learning more about Education and Technology.
Part of his experience, he has done training of facilitators, coordination and planning for different coding events. He has done both online and physical workshops on coding to inspire and support the implementation of coding in South African schools. In 2019, more learners were introduced to coding through Ranger and Tanks school kits and as well as the BOATS virtual coding tournaments which were organized by Prof. Jean Greyling. Selby Mokoena have been very influential to schools and learners in the interest of coding, hence he also took part in the “Unplugged Coding” online workshops that took place in March 2021. Part of these workshops was to share ways in which coding can be introduced without the use of computers.
