Israel's ground breaking water saving systems may soon be introduced to municipalities in South Africa.
Infrastructure not properly maintained in South Africa leads to 30% of water being lost.
Israeli government officials explained the systems at the Nampo Harvest Festival in Bothaville in the Free State.
Trade consul Itai Melchoir says metros in Israel have water losses of less than 10%.
He says the latest technology is ready to be tested in South Africa.
“We realised that a big part for the water problem comes from losing water to infrastructure, many systems were developed. That includes acoustic sensors that can help listen to the water flow and understand from that where you are losing water. Using sensors and data, collecting data gives you new insights to where the problems are even where the problems are about to start. Satellite images can tell where the leaks are. If you use smart monitoring, and for every customer, you know its baseline and how much it’s supposed to use.”
