The Kingdom of Eswatini marked a significant milestone in its scientific development by hosting its first-ever National Science Week (ENSW). The event was officially launched on February 13, 2025, at the UNESWA Sports Emporium in Kwaluseni, bringing together key stakeholders from Eswatini and South Africa’s Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI).

This groundbreaking initiative was made possible through a strategic partnership between Eswatini’s Department of Research, Science, Technology, and Innovation under the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology (MICT) and South Africa’s DSTI. The collaboration underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthen Eswatini’s National System of Innovation (NSI) and enhance regional cooperation in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI).

A Regional Effort for Science Advancement

A key highlight of the celebration was the ENSW Focus Week, which ran from February 17–20, 2025, across all four regions of Eswatini—Manzini, Lubombo, Hhohho, and Shiselweni. The event provided an interactive platform for learners, educators, and the general public to engage with cutting-edge scientific developments and hands-on exhibitions.

At the request of DSTI, the National Research Foundation – South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (NRF-SAASTA) participated as an exhibitor and extended invitations to its partner organizations. The South African delegation included:
