Cebisile Ngobese

Cebisile Ngobese was born and bred in the dusty streets of a small village called KwaNyuswa, which is situated in Botha’s Hill, Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal. She is a friendly and welcoming person who enjoys spending time with family and interacting with people from different races and backgrounds.

She completed her primary education at the Marianhill Primary School. She attended the Risecliff Secondary School and Siyajabula High School, where she matriculated. For her tertiary education, she studied at the Durban University of Technology, where she acquired her National Diploma in Journalism.

“Honestly speaking, my love for writing started when I was very young, before I even knew anything about journalism. Growing up I always had a diary, music book, book for poems, speeches etc. I always loved writing,” she says.

She says that whenever a teacher would ask what she wanted to be when she grew-up, she would say a social worker, charted accountant, psychologist or even a soldier. She never would have thought that she would be a journalist. Then, as she grew older and got to know about the profession, she found it very interesting and could relate to it. So she decided that this is the career she would like to pursue.

She says that although the media industry is always portrayed as all glamor and fun, it also has its challenges. The important thing is that if one has a strong desire to make it in this industry, one needs to be a hard worker, perseverance, determination and most importantly have love for the profession.

“I am glad I got the chance to pursue a career in this field. I love it and I wouldn’t change it for any other profession…unless I really have to. I am glad to have been given a chance to be part of the SAASTA family. I am quite sure that we will all work very well together and share this special experience and make the best of it.”
