Workshop brief
Geographic Information System (GIS)
The workshop introduces the concepts of GIS by using practical examples that make the content of GIS easily related to everyday activities by using paper based activities. QGIS is a free software that is available for you to download and use. Through this workshop you will gain skills in using QGIS. After the workshop, you can use the easy to understand training videos that were developed to illustrate how to use the QGIS software to implement the activities in the training manual. This workshop will enable you to gain a plethora of skills to teach GIS either using paper based activities or the QGIS software. QGIS can be installed on your computer or computers in your lab. If you do not have the access to computer, you can use the paper based activities to teach GIS.
The GIS training is offered by SAEON, which is accredited by the South African Council of Educators (SACE). To qualify for a SACE certificate, you need to attend the workshop over the two days and participate in the assessment activities and be declared competent.
