Your go-to guide for all things nano
The Nanotechnology Public Engagement Programme (NPEP) now has its very own informative website at www.npep.co.za. With information just one mouse click away, exploring nanotechnology has never been this easy.
NPEP was born out of the government's National Nanotechnology Strategy, and SAASTA has been implementing and administering NPEP on behalf of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) since its launch in 2008.
NPEP’s goal is to promote public understanding of nanotechnology and engagement with the new emerging scientific discipline. The programme also assists in the translation of academic research in nanotechnology for public and industry policy makers, providing a service to both the public and a diverse group of stakeholders.
The NPEP website offers fascinating facts and information on nanotechnology-related issues, such as:- the basics thereof,
- how it is used in addressing health care challenges,
- how it is applied in finding more sustainable energy solutions,
- its applications in agriculture and the food industry,
- its vast list of applications in materials, and
- how it can aid in providing access to clean water resources and preserve other natural resources.
The website also offers numerous resources, such as cartoon posters for the classroom, fact sheets with information aimed at media practitioners, and updates on events. Be sure to read the information on the nano tour that will be taking place at the CSIR’s National Centre for Nanostructured Materials in February 2012!
