The Nanotechnology Public Engagement Programme (NPEP)* in conjunction with the CSIR, take pleasure in inviting students, policy makers, industry representatives, scientists/applied researchers, science communication practitioners and the general public to a one-day Nanotechnology Facility Tour.

The purpose of the tour
This event aims to create awareness around nanotechnology and enhance public understanding of nanotechnology. It also aims to encourage industry to be involved in the development of nanotechnology and to take the lead in nanotechnology innovation.
The tour will include informative handouts, a 10-minute audio-visual presentation on nanoscience and nanotechnology, as well as access to nine stations where people can learn more about the various nanostructures created at the facility, and the devices that are used to view them.
The tour is structured in two parts:- The first is an audio-visual presentation, which aims to familiarise the viewer with the science of nanotechnology, its origins, potential applications and risks.
- The second, a physical tour, will be conducted in the labs with the aim of encouraging engagement with the South African centre and to look for opportunities to support or collaborate with the work done there.

The tour is offered free of charge and includes refreshments, lunch and parking for people who send their RSVPs by 13 February 2012. It is essential to book in order to reserve your seat and for catering purposes.
