As part of the collaboration between the Beijing Association for Science and Technology (BAST) and SAASTA, Dr Jabu Nukeri recently visited the city of bicycles and colour to attend its annual science festival.
Swopping a sunny spring for China’s autumn chills, Dr Jabu Nukeri, manager of SAASTA’s Science Education Unit, jetted off to attend the Beijing Science Festival in September. The trip was sponsored by the Beijing Association for Science and Technology (BAST) as means of collaborating with SAASTA on science exhibitions, sharing science materials, and potentially exchanging programmes for educators and students.
The visit was the result of an agreement signed between SAASTA and BAST in March 2011 to establish a long-term scientific and technological exchange and cooperation programme. In return, a delegation of five BAST members and the director of the Beijing Museum of Natural History will visit South Africa in March 2012 to observe local initiatives that promote the public awareness of and engagement with science and technology.
The delegation will also be able to attend SciFest Africa 2012, where they will have the opportunity to take part in the festival’s activities and interact with other leading professionals the science and technology field.
