Where will our future energy come from?

ZooClub members of the National Zoological Gardens (NZG) attended an outing to the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation Limited (NECSA) in February to explore the United Nation's theme for 2012 -- "Sustainable Energy for All".

ZooClub members all decked out in their NECSA T-shirts and bags.

NECSA, situated 30 kilometres to the west of Pretoria at Pelindaba is the home of South Africa's nuclear research and development programme. The NECSA visitor centre is a state-of-the-art facility in which to explore and enjoy learning about nuclear energy. It also provides visitors with interactive opportunities to learn about nuclear science, radiation, radioactivity and waste. ZooClub members were treated to an informative presentation before they eagerly explored the exhibits.

"The ZooClub members thoroughly enjoyed learning all there is to offer at the visitor centre and took part in all the interactive activities," says Elize de Jager, Curriculum Developer and Head of the Life Science Centre at the NZG, adding that the outing proved to be a very worthwhile and educational experience.

As a final treat, all the ZooClub members received a goodie bag from NECSA filled with useful items to assist them in their present and future studies.
